The Big 5-0!

On Wednesday, December 9th GRID Alternatives Mid-Atlantic office successfully installed our 50th solar system! The proud client, Darlene Jackson, couldn’t be happier to be making a positive impact to her local community and environment. Ms. Jackson was born and raised in the District and moved into her historical home in 1996.

As one of the first homeowners in her neighborhood, Ms. Jackson told us “I’ve always been interested in reducing my carbon footprint,” and she proved it by taking the initiative to refurbish her roof so that solar could be a feasible option.

Darlene received a 3.9kW system installation that included 16 265Watt photovoltaic (PV) panels. The system was installed by a group of local volunteers and GRID staff.

So what does 50 installs mean?

  • 143 kW Installed in the Mid-Atlantic Region
  • $785,000 Lifetime Savings for Low Income Families
  • 2,400 Tons of Greenhouse Gas Emissions Prevented
  • 460 Cars off the Road for a Year
  • 239 Volunteers Trained

With the end of 2015 approaching, the Mid-Atlantic office is very excited to have achieved this milestone. As the number of PV installations increase, we continue to reduce carbon emissions, provide clean, affordable energy to low-income residents and train local volunteers to become the future workforce of a greener and brighter future!
