GRID Alternatives 20 Year Anniversary

GRID Alternatives is excited to announce that 2024 officially marks our 20th Anniversary! That means two decades of providing community-centered clean energy solutions to environmental and economic justice communities through collaboration, partnerships, advocacy, and innovation.

It is GRID’s amazing team: the residents we serve, our community-based partners, environmental justice advocates, corporate sponsors, federal, state, and local agencies, donors, and YOU who have helped to make the journey to a just transition for everyone a reality for so many individuals and families across the United States and internationally. We cannot thank you enough for your ongoing support of GRID’s mission.

GRID’s unique, people-first model has provided solar panels on single- and multifamily housing, putting money back into families’ pockets, increasing housing affordability, and reducing the energy cost burden for affordable housing providers. In addition, we are increasingly installing solar plus batteries plus chargers to deepen our impact. To date, GRID has served  30,927 households and 253 community facilities, representing $706,233,321 in lifetime savings!

Making our job training opportunities accessible and inclusive of groups that are traditionally underrepresented in solar, including women and those who identify as nonbinary, people of color, and those impacted by the criminal legal system, is critical to diversifying the clean energy industry and creating clean energy career pathways. To date, we have provided hands-on experience to 33,546 people and conducted 391,039 in total job training hours!

We have also been a leader in renewable energy access, amplifying the voices and interests of underserved communities to drive policies at the federal, state, and local levels that support solar access and renewable energy opportunities for all communities. Before President Biden took office, our policy team worked with various agency leads to craft climate equity goals for the administration’s first 100 days, and we have since worked closely with coalition partners and agencies to center equitable community benefits in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law passed in 2021 and the Inflation Reduction Act the following year.

As innovators, GRID pilots new programs and strategies for widening our efforts and integrating technology that can be brought to scale. Our Battery Storage and Clean Mobility initiatives increase savings on energy and fuel costs and deepen resiliency and our community impact.

Our work and mission impact are so important to our communities. As we embark on our 20th year, we are “through the roof” and excited to expand our work, deepen our partnerships, and widen our impact. We look forward to continued collaboration to connect our communities to clean energy solutions and to lead the way to an equitable and just transition for everyone.

On behalf of every single one of us here at GRID - thank you for joining us on this journey!
