International Program

Take a trip that will transform a community and change your life! Sign up today for a week-long journey to bring solar power to off-grid communities in rural Nicaragua.

GRID Alternatives' International Program brings solar power to rural off-grid communities in Nicaragua, providing electricity for schools, health clinics and farms, and energy education for residents.  Based on a "voluntourism" model, the program offers individual and corporate volunteers the opportunity to travel to Nicaragua to install solar systems alongside community members. We have installed solar in 17 villages to-date, and continue to work with the communities to make sure the systems will benefit residents for the long-term.

Travel with us!

In addition to their stay with village families, volunteers also enjoy a variety of organized cultural activities and outings. The trip fee is $1,600 per person, which covers all of the volunteer's lodging, meals, transportation, taxes and fees during the 9-day stay in Nicaragua. Airfare is not included. Participants can fundraise for the trip from their personal networks or pay out-of-pocket. Click here to learn more about upcoming trips. Corporate and private trips are also available.
