President Obama announces a set of initiatives to bring increased access to solar energy and solar jobs. The "Increase Solar Access for All Americans" plan involves private sector investment of $520 million and partnerships with Citigroup, GRID Alternatives, SunEdison and half a dozen other companies as well as several states and cities.

Top female executives and female job trainees from the Los Angeles Conservation Corps volunteered to install a solar power system for the Menjivar family, a family of 11 spanning three-generations residing in South Los Angeles. The Menjivar’s 4.16 kW solar system will result in approximately $1,360 in energy cost savings in the first year, and nearly $40,000 over its 30-year life.

GRID Alternatives to install solar for over 1,600 families through the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund. Legislators, administration officials and community groups gathered today at a live solar installation in Sacramento to highlight the state’s partnership with GRID Alternatives, the nation’s largest nonprofit solar installer, to expand clean energy access to disadvantaged communities.

California Governor Jerry Brown’s budget revisions include spending more than $2 billion dollars from the state’s cap and trade program. But money from the greenhouse gas reduction program is already helping some homeowners this fiscal year.
