GRID GLA Gives Thanks!

On Thursday, December 15th, GRID Alternatives Greater Los Angeles held its annual Volunteer Appreciation Night. Though it was an unusual rainy evening, the continued dedication and commitment of our volunteers and trainees was evident from the impressive turnout. It was truly a joyous celebration in honor of the hard work and accomplishments of our committed and dedicated volunteers and job trainees; over the last year.

Our Workforce Development Manager, Adewale OgunBadejo once again did a great job emceeing the evening as we presented several volunteer awards and said good bye to Outreach Coordinator Michelle Settergren, Volunteer & Training Coordinator Ana Kim, and GRID GLA Board Member Ravi Sankaran.

Highlights from 2016 include:

  • 694+ unique volunteers and job trainees participated on at least one installation opportunity

  • 327 volunteers and job trainees attended our design workshops

  • 140 volunteers and job trainees attended our conduit bending workshops

  • 57 volunteers and job trainees attended our outreach/sales workshops, as well as attended a number of canvassing days

  • 37 volunteers and job trainees attended our all new electrical workshops

  • 4 job trainees completed our project management internship program

  • 65 volunteers/trainees found employment

  • We rolled out the Installation Basics Training (IBT) program by orientating our first 7 volunteers and trainees. To learn more click here.

  • With your help, GLA completed 166 in-house installations this year.

As you can see we had an awesome year and all of our volunteers and job trainees were directly involved in our success, while also taking advantage of the training opportunities “beyond the roof.”  We thank you for all of your hard work and dedication over the past year and look forward to bigger and better things to come in 2017, including new workshop opportunities and the official launch of our installation training program for our multifamily housing projects (opportunities are on the calendar now, sign up today!).
