GRID Alternatives 400th solar installation for a low-income homeowner in California took place on Apr 10, 2010 in the Central Valley!
Everyone was super excited to be a part of this install at the Nhim residence here in Fresno. This installation was another in the Habitat for Humanity development Crossroads in Fresno which has seen many rooftops and families transformed by GRID Alternatives and community members coming together to provide reliable delivery and installation of solar electric systems.
This landmark installation finished smoothly with a group of proud volunteers and grateful homeowners.

Solarthon is GRID Alternatives' annual solar installation block party and fundraiser. Every year we bring together hundreds of individual and corporate sponsors to install solar for several homes in one day, in partnership with local low-income homeowners. This year we're hosting Solarthon events around the state and our first event in the Greater Los Angeles Region on Saturday, June 12th. Sign-up now to participate in one of our largest installation projects of the year and gain valuable hands-on experience in solar while helping GRID Alternatives expand renewable energy services to low-income families throughout California.

GRID Alternatives Central Valley installed solar in Fresno with homeowner Lim Neng and Proteus Solar Students who came out on there 4th week of solar instruction to get "Hands on Experience" in the field. The "Proteus Boys" were very excited to actually apply their new education and worked very smooth and seamless in the application of an actual solar system. Well done boys. http://www.proteusinc.org/

Twelve University of Kansas students enrolled in a new advanced journalism class on environmental and sustainability stories are observing green practices firsthand during spring break.
Working with GRID Alternatives, the KU students installed solar panels on a Habitat for Humanity house in East Oakland, CA.
The class had a Twitter feed continuously flowing throughout the process. As well, they have a Facebook page and Flickr page dedicated to the entire event.

On February 16th and 17th, GRID Alternatives installed a 1.4 kilowatt PV system on Wayne Reed’s home in the City of San Diego. Mr. Reed, a retired high school teacher, is a volunteer who has given his time on 5 installations. He originally began working with GRID to learn more about solar as he was interested in getting solar for his home to protect against rising energy costs. Reed soon realized he qualified for GRID’s SASH Program. Mr. Reed was very helpful on the installation at his home, providing breakfast and lunch for our volunteers. His enthusiasm about getting solar was evident. On the day of the install he said, “I couldn’t sleep this week, I was so excited about this!”
GRID Alternatives was happy to provide Mr. Reed with a solar system and thanks him for his hard work and hospitality. Also, thank you to the volunteer team that made this installation possible. We could not do this work without you!

GRID Alternatives finished work at Habitat for Humanity's Orangewood Development in Escondido this past Saturday. We installed 1.2 KW systems for 7 families to reduce their electric bills and cut greenhouse gas emissions. In addition to using panels from local solar company Siliken Renewable Energies Inc for the first time, this was also our first time using the Clicksys racking system and the Emphase microinverter. Siliken, also a corporate sponsor, sent 9 hardworking employees to help with the installation on December 18th. The remainder of the install was done by our passionate volunteers who stayed committed despite multiple cancellations because of rainstorms. Thanks to all of the volunteers who helped make this install possible. We couldn't do it without you!
