On April 30, 2010 GRID Alternatives Central Valley installed a 7 kW solar electric system with IBEW Local Union 100 for the Arreola Family.
Sam Arreola is a IBEW Local Union 100 member and committed supporter of GRID Alternatives in the Central Valley. Having installed solar with the IBEW Local Union 100 last year as a sponsor and having had Sam out on numerous installs over the past 10 months made this install an awesome reunion party.
Congrats Arreola family and thank you to all participating volunteers!

On May 4th, Salesforce.com worked with GRID-GLA to install a 1.9kW solar electric system for a low-income homeowner in Inglewood, CA. Salesforce.com sent out 10 great volunteers who came out nice and early for this one day installation. Salesforce has sponsored previous installs for our Oakland office but this was the first for GLA and a great opportunity to build on the partnership. A huge thanks goes out to Salesforce.com and especially Latifah for making this happen!
Not only was this our first corporate sponsorship here in LA but it marked the first installation done with the city of Inglewood. It is a great symbol of the work that has been done not only here in LA but across the state and also a great foreshadowing of what is to come in the future. Another huge thanks goes out to Michelle Andry for making the Inglewood partnership a success, we wish you and your family all the luck in the world!

GRID Alternatives 400th solar installation for a low-income homeowner in California took place on Apr 10, 2010 in the Central Valley!
Everyone was super excited to be a part of this install at the Nhim residence here in Fresno. This installation was another in the Habitat for Humanity development Crossroads in Fresno which has seen many rooftops and families transformed by GRID Alternatives and community members coming together to provide reliable delivery and installation of solar electric systems.
This landmark installation finished smoothly with a group of proud volunteers and grateful homeowners.

GRID Alternatives Central Valley installed solar in Fresno with homeowner Lim Neng and Proteus Solar Students who came out on there 4th week of solar instruction to get "Hands on Experience" in the field. The "Proteus Boys" were very excited to actually apply their new education and worked very smooth and seamless in the application of an actual solar system. Well done boys. http://www.proteusinc.org/

It was a first for many staff and volunteers in San Diego. But, it sure won't be the last. On April 13 and 14, GRID Alternatives took a crack at their first full install in the City of El Cajon about 20 minutes east of downtown San Diego.
Fifteen volunteers joined the ranks of thousands more across the state to help install Photovoltaic (PV) Systems for low income communities, with their first 2.2 kW system install in San Diego County. Habitat for Humanity San Diego is building this particular home with the support of the Jimmy Johnson Foundation. This home is actually the second house that had solar installed, but the first that included volunteers who had been trained and coordinated from the San Diego office.
“We are really excited, said Paul Cleary, San Diego Regional Director. “It’s interesting how this development has a street named Foundation Lane. “I think we have built a great foundation ourselves for future installs of PV systems in San Diego County.”
Although site supervisors traveled from the Bay Area and Los Angeles to help the San Diego team get in tune with the in and outs of an installation, the work was eagerly taken on by volunteers who wanted to learn and give something back to the community.
Final construction of the remaining two homes is scheduled to be completed by October of this year. GRID Alternatives hopes to be there as the other homes are built to make the entire street solar.
GRID Alternatives would like to thank BP Solar for providing the systems panels, Stellar Solar for providing the inverter and BOS, and GroSolar for proving additional supplies, Habitat for Humanity San Diego for coordinating the install and of course, the volunteers who helped install the 2.2 kW system on the property.
