Every year GRID Alternatives brings together hundreds of individuals from the community to participate in our Solarthon fundraising event. This solar barn-raising work party gives volunteers like you the opportunity to participate in our largest solar installation of the year and raise funds to support GRID’s work. Sign up to join homeowners, solar professionals and hundreds of volunteers in providing renewable energy for local low-income families. All individual or team participants must commit to raise a minimum of $250.
Raising money for a cause you care about can actually be a lot of fun. It's a great excuse to catch up with acquaintances and discuss the importance of bringing together environmental and economic sustainability, particularly in the low-income communities hit hardest by the economic crisis. Remember, the purpose of Solarthon is both to raise money and awareness, so every conversation, letter and email makes a difference and our staff is here to support you in your fundraising efforts. We want you to have fun!
Here are a few resources and tips to make fundraising easier:
- Create a personal fundraising page at FirstGiving.com. You can customize the page and email to friends and family and track their donations. You can also use FirstGiving's Facebook application to raise money over your Facebook network.
- Send a personal letter or email to let folks know why you care about renewable energy for communities in need. Here's a sample (in Microsoft Word format) to use as a reference, but your own words are the best.
- Share statistics from our website to help quickly demonstrate GRID Alternatives' impact and to
give prospective donors more information about where their donations are going. - Post a sponsorship flyer in your company lunchroom or community bulletin board, or circulate it around your office or community.
- Many companies offer matching donation programs that can double the value of your sponsors' donations - don't forget to ask them!
- Read and share success stories here from last year's fundraising participants.
