Union Bank helps ease energy burden for San Diego family

Hung Nguyen and his family are finally catching a break. After months of electricity bills exceeding $400, they can now look forward to solar savings thanks to their new PV system.

On a sunny San Diego morning last week, twelve Union Bank employee volunteers came together to make life a little brighter for the Nguyen family. They spent the day working with GRID staff to learn the ins and outs of solar installation--from module testing to wire pulling.

Ryan Bjorkquist, VP of Environmental Stewardship at MUFG Union Bank N.A., traveled all the way to San Diego from Northern California, and was thrilled to participate. “Union Bank is committed to volunteering in the communities that we serve and helping to preserve our environment. We commend the work of GRID Alternatives in implementing solar-powered energy in San Diego neighborhoods, ” he said.

Mr. Nguyen can now expect to see savings of over $48,000 over the system’s lifetime--savings which instead can go toward taking care of his son with special needs.

Many thanks to Union Bank for their part in bringing solar to the Nguyen family, and for their ongoing support of our workforce development programs in California helping to train and connect individuals with stable, living-wage jobs in the growing solar industry.
