Clients Give Back

America is the most generous country in the world, and you don't have to be Bill Gates to make a difference.  In fact, lower-income people tend to support charity with a much bigger share of their income than wealthier people do.  It is no surprise, then, that GRID Alternatives' clients are responding to a call to help make a difference in another family's life.

In June, our North Valley office began a fundraising campaign to cover a gap in funding for a family in Hamilton City to go solar. The generosity and support from our clients has been inspiring.  One homeowner's story is particularly inspirational.  One of our Red Bluff homeowners, Mr. Stauss, has begun donating a portion of his energy savings each month back to GRID to help our program continue to serve more families.

Stauss has been unable to work after a tragic accident several years ago left him paralyzed from the neck down.  His medical equipment kept his electricity bills very high.  He had researched solar before, but was unable to come up with the high initial investment cost due to his fixed income.  After receiving a low-income rehabilitation loan to make accessibility improvements to his home, he was referred to GRID's North Valley office for our solar program.

Of his monthly recurring donation to GRID, Stauss says, "The assistance I received from GRID has reduced my energy bills by around 80%.  I would like to see as many people benefit from the program as possible. I am so thankful to GRID!  I wish I could donate more."

We are thankful to you, Mr. Stauss, and to all our homeowners, partners and sponsors.  Without support from the community and from individuals like you, our program would not be possible.  To support our ongoing fundraising campaign to help the Guiterrez family receive a solar system, please contact Rebekah at 530-217-6146 or donate here>.
