When Rebecca asked her friends about getting solar, they told her not to do it. Among their warnings, they said that it doesn’t work, it could ruin her roof, and that it was too expensive. But when she got a flier from GRID talking about our no-cost solar installation program, she was intrigued and decided to call us anyways to learn more about the program and how it could save her up to 80% on her electricity bill.

Here in Chico where I sit working from home the Dixie Fire rages. Currently, it has burned more than 722,000 acres and it is only 40% contained. The smoke outside has turned the sky white and my dog keeps looking up at me bored and morose. She knows something is wrong, she can smell it, but though she seems worried she still needs to run - but being outside gets unpleasant after a short time, so we do what we can inside.

It was dark outside when Nakia and her sons, ages nine and thirteen, woke up to get ready for school on the morning of November 18th, 2018. As they drove to school, they looked up at the sky and saw what looked like snow falling.

It wasn’t until they pulled into the school that they realized the town was being evacuated. So, they rushed home to pack a few things and get their cats. Leaving their home for the last time, the air was thick with smoke and the ash was “raining down” as they saw the “flames and fire crews speeding past” them.
