Sunrun Employee Volunteers Bring Some Sunshine in South Los Angeles

With February temperatures in the 80’s, it was hard not to embrace the sun during Jeymmy Ponce’s solar installation last week in South Los Angeles.  A single mother of four, Jeymmy has struggled to make ends meet since moving to Los Angles from Tijuana ten years ago, and hopes the savings from her system will help her have a little extra money each month to put towards the needs of her children. “I am so grateful and the team was so nice,” she said in her native Spanish, beaming.

The team she referred to was a group of enthusiastic employee volunteers from Sunrun, a national GRID Alternatives supporter, who gave their time to get up on the roof with us.  “It was a pleasure to work with such a fun group of volunteers,” said Adewale Ogun-Badejo, Workforce Manager in the GRID Alternatives Los Angeles office, who helped organize the day. “Everyone worked hard to get the job done.” The team installed 17 panels for Ms. Ponce, a system set to offset nearly 70 percent of her usage.

Sunrun has been a supporter of GRID since 2011 and in 2015 contributed more than 750 employee volunteer hours to bring solar access to all of our communities. Check out photos from the installation here. Thanks, Sunrun!
