Parlier High School Students Step in to Lend a Helping Hand

As 2016 continues to unfold, GRID celebrates its new partnership with Parlier Unified School District. On a recent chilly February morning, fifteen high school students from agriculture classes at Parlier High School came out to learn how to install solar in Parlier, a small town of 15,000 residents. Participating students were thrilled to have an opportunity to make an impact in their home town, while gaining hands-on experience installing 3.28 kW’s of solar to help a local family. As students began the installation, Agriculture and Natural Resources instructor—Felipe Barrientos proudly oversaw his students as they learned how to install solar panels and related components.  “This experience will expose them to a broad scope of working with their hands and tools; it is great skill-set to have since the solar industry is booming in California…some students have discussed a desire to get into the solar industry or  the field of renewable energy” stated Mr. Barrientos. Tom Esqueda, GRID Executive Director for the Central Valley office stated that, “We are proud to partner with Parlier Unified School District. Not only will this give students the opportunity to learn more about the solar industry, but our partnership with Parlier Unified School District helps us expand into new territories and assists us with our goal to reach out to more valley families”.  We are extremely grateful and look forward to growing our partnership with Parlier Unified. Thanks to SunPower for its support of our Solar Futures program.
