Solar Academy students visit GRID!

The GRID Oakland offices looked like a scene from a high school movie on Tuesday: 37 high school students from the SunPower Solar Science Academy were here to learn about, what else - solar! They got an introduction to our nonprofit model, split into groups and drew home solar systems, and toured our warehouse to get their hands on real solar equipment.

"Visiting GRID was great because we could see how people apply solar in the real world and what it can do for communities," said Debbie Oyebade from Antioch High School.

The event was part of our Solar Futures partnership with SunPower, in which we are providing classroom and hands-on solar education to K-14 students, and sharing our expertise with their Solar Academy students.

The students also had the chance to talk to one of our outreach coordinators in the Bay Area, whose job it is to usher clients through the solar process with GRID. He talked to the students about the neighborhoods we work in, the qualifications of our program, and his work to make sure clients are excited about going solar.

"It's great to see how the power of solar can spread like a chain reaction through the neighborhood," said Grace Park from Oakland High.

It's great to see the enthusiasm spread among the next generation of youth, too! Check out more pictures from their day with GRID here
