News : GRID Alternatives & the Los Angeles Conservation Corps: Training for a better tomorrow.

Between January 24th & 25th GRID Alternatives and the Los Angeles Conservation Corps got together to install a 2.6 Kilowatt solar electric system on the home of Mr. Tapia in Compton, CA. As always the experience was rewarding for GRID Alternatives staff members but it was even more rewarding for the young Corps members of the Los Angeles Conservation Corps.

Although many of the Corps members have already worked on commercial solar electric applications in the Los Angeles area, this was their first time installing a residential solar electric system. For them, the residential installation was much more personal and hands- on. The enthusiasm and energy showed in the members’ resolve to complete the first of what we hope will be many through our partnership with the Los Angeles Conservation Corps.

We want to thank the homeowners Mr. & Mrs. Tapia and the wonderful staff and members of the Los Angeles Conservation Corps for their hard work and efforts to get this project done. We’ll see you soon.

We'd also like to extend a special thank you to the California Environmental Protection Agency - Environmental Justice Small Grants Program for their support of this and many other projects.
