We are easily accessible from the Barrio Logan Trolley Station (Blue Line) and bus 929. Street parking is generally available along Main Street.

Staff Bios

 

Marta E. Becerra, Development Officer
Prior to working for GRID Alternatives, Marta ran operations for a multi state general contractor. She has over twenty years of experience in sales, marketing and business operations in the commercial construction industry.

Marta has volunteered for several nonprofit groups such as Habitat for Humanity where she assisted in their fundraising efforts and worked on several Habitat jobsites, WiLDCOAST /COSTASALVAjE where she helped maintain the Otay Valley Regional Park and ACCION San Diego where she assisted with financial software set up and training for small business owners. Marta is a past director and officer of ISPE San Diego, a nonprofit professional organization.

Marta is dedicated to improving living conditions for the underserved in the community and has a passion for service. She is focused on cultivating a strong partnership between GRID Alternatives and its donor/partners while increasing public awareness of alternate, sustainable energy.

Marta is nationally certified as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) through the Human Resources Certification Institute and is pursuing her California certification (PHR-CA).

 

Evelyn Blanco, Outreach Coordinator
Born in Peru, Evelyn and her family immigrated to the North County of San Diego where she grew up before heading off to college. She earned her Architecture degree and Construction Management minor from California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo and later earned her Green Building Construction certificate from San Diego State University. Her work experiences range from architecture to construction to teaching to the green industry. Before being a part of the GRID Alternatives crew she was a volunteer where she assisted in several installations in the San Diego County.Aside from work, Evelyn enjoys traveling, exploring, dancing, running, creating art and spending time with friends and her familia.

 

Pedro Garcia, Volunteer and Training Associate

Pedro was born and raised in San Diego. He graduated from San Diego City College with a degree in Business and Data Processing. He attended San Diego State but left school to take a job in the San Francisco Bay area. He returned to San Diego in 1990 where most of his family lives. He started volunteering with GRID in November. After volunteering on several installations in his neighborhood he knew he wanted a career in the green enery field. He enjoys the beach and spending time with friends and family.
 

Marco Casares, Volunteer and Outreach Associate
Marco was born in Chula Vista, CA and was raised in Tijuana, Mexico. He graduated from the Instituto Tecnológico de Tijuana with a degree in Industrial Engineering. Prior to beginning at GRID Alternatives, he worked for several years in the manufacturing industry as a Process Improvement specialist. He is extremely committed to enhancing his “solar skills” and sharing his knowledge with others. He enjoys traveling, going to the beach, learning foreign languages, discussing international politics, watching historical documentaries, sports, and hanging out with his friends and family.

 

Paul Cleary, Regional Director
Paul’s non-profit experience began in the early 1990s, when he helped evaluate a rural electrification project in Guatemala. After receiving a master’s degree in international relations from U.C. San Diego, Paul worked in public health along the U.S.-Mexico border, human trafficking prevention, fundraising for an anthropology museum, and - his most challenging position - a short stint as a stay-at-home father. Paul and his family have been happy consumers of solar-generated electricity since 2002.

 

Monique Davis, Outreach Coordinator
After graduating from The Ohio State University, Monique began her outreach work with one of the largest labor unions in the country, working directly with the low-income community to give them the tools to empower themselves in the workplace. Since then, she has worked in youth and family services providing case management, and as an advocate to families with incarcerated loved ones. She enjoys working as Outreach Coordinator for GRID Alternatives because of the direct impact her work has on families and the community at large. Monique was born in Ohio and traveled the world with her family as an Army brat.

 

Marty "Wallaby" Jones, Solar Installation Supervisor
Marty brings 20 plus years of construction experience to GRID Alternatives. Involved in residential and commercial operations as the owner of a commercial construction company and residential window retrofit company, he has successfully managed a wide variety of construction projects, from small to large multi-million dollar projects over the years as a licensed contractor. Prior to owning his own businesses Marty worked as the Construction Manager for a large nation-wide developer overseeing construction activities and staff for his region.

Marty has been involved with the solar industry for 3+ years and previously worked for Sunpower before joining GRID Alternatives. He has worked on over 100 solar installations as a volunteer, professional installer and supervisor. He fell into the solar industry by accident and found his new passion and has never looked back. Marty grew up in Sydney, Australia and was working as an industrial engineer before travelling bought him to the US. He graduated as craftsman toolmaker and continued his studies in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering. He enjoys flying, playing guitar, surfing and hanging out with his family and friends.
