Local leaders like to tout San Diego as “America’s Finest Solar City”, and a look at the San Diego Solar Map is impressive. However, dig a little deeper and you won’t find many solar rooftops in San Diego’s low-income neighborhoods. GRID Alternatives’ San Diego office is working to change that.
Since December 2008, we’ve been helping local homeowners reduce their monthly electricity bills while engaging volunteers in community service projects that build their green jobs skills and improve the environment. From San Ysidro to Escondido, Encinitas to Julian, we are bringing the power of solar electricity to low-income communities, rooftop by rooftop, at the rate of about two projects a week.
Are you looking to gain hands-on solar installation experience that will help you break into the solar field? Want to make sure all communities share in the promise of renewable energy? Concerned about making our planet a bit greener for future generations? Or maybe you just want to give back to the community in a tangible way? No matter what motivates you, we’d love to have you join us.
