Wal-Mart supports solar job seekers

On a sunny Friday morning, five job trainees from the Center for Employment Training (CET) arrived at the home of Rosalina Torres in California’s Salinas Valley to get some practice installing solar power. They are among more than 50 CET volunteers in our Central Coast region that have collectively received over 4,000 hours of hands-on solar training with GRID since 2014.

The Walmart Foundation, with a grant of $50,000 through its California State Giving Program, is one of the funders that have made our work with job training organizations like this possible this year, helping these young men and women get the training they need to get jobs. And, in the process, these trainees are putting solar on the homes of thousands of families in need.

“Getting people on the roof is the best way to get them into solar jobs, and it's a win for the families too,” said Anna Lisa Lukes, regional director for GRID Alternatives’ Central Coast office, which hosted the installation. “We’re so grateful to foundations like Walmart's that help make these opportunities possible.”
