The Little Long Cheng Development in Fresno is 10 homes closer to being completely furnished with solar energy systems after the Central Valley Solarthon on October 8. The second annual Solarthon showcased a community that worked together to build their own homes through sweat equity programs and now are working together to install their own PV systems. Hundreds of homeowners, corporate sponsors, individual sponsors, team leaders and community volunteers participated in the installations and celebrated during a speaker-filled lunch program.
Representatives of California’s 16th State Senate District Michael Rubio presented a Certificate of Recognition that states, “Solar energy is a clean and sustainable source of electricity, and abundant in California’s Central Valley, and it is because of caring and innovative organizations such as GRID Alternatives, that California has a bright future ahead.” The point was reiterated by State Assembly Member Henry T. Perea during his lunch-time address, “You are doing great things. Count me on your team, GRID Alternatives!”
In addition to participating in the event, PG&E celebrated its support for GRID Alternatives’ work by presenting a check of $85,000. The funds will go towards supporting opportunities for low-income families throughout their service area, provide hands-on skill development in the growing field of solar installation, and provide volunteer opportunities for PG&E employees.
Regional Director Tom Esqueda and his team extended thanks to all of the individual and corporate sponsors who made the event such a success, including: Official Module Supplier Yingli Solar, as well as sponsors Wells Fargo, Walmart, Schneider Electric, Proteus, Inc., Modesto Junior College and Real Goods Solar.
Big thanks go out to all the generous in-kind sponsors who supplied food, refreshments, construction material and prizes.
