Jasmine Lomax

Date

Jasmine Lomax first volunteered with GRID Alternatives in the summer of 2010. She had just finished high school and knew she has an interest in buildings and architecture, but also had a passion for sustainability. Jasmine heard about GRID on the news and joined an install team as a volunteer - soon enough she became a roof Team Leader and then a ground Team Leader. Jasmine says it was inspiring to meet so many positive people with similar interests making a real difference in the world. She is now at Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo majoring in construction management and focusing on sustainable building. She hopes to pursue a career in sustainable construction and LEED certified buildling using sustainable materials and solar. Jasmine is grateful to GRID both for the initial technical experience she gained as a volunteer, but also for the opportunity to meet homeowners face to face. Those human connections, she says, are inspiring, and have motivated her to always consider sustainability in whatever career path she pursues. As a woman in the male-dominated construction field, Jasmine says she is seeing the industry rapidly changing. “A lot more young women are joining the industry, even from where i first started four years ago,” she says, “stick with it and don’t doubt yourself.”
