Bobby Chan fled Vietnam in 1978, headed by boat to Malaysia on a journey that took 28 days. More than 35 years later, he now lives in Richmond, CA with his wife, Sue Ann, and two daughters who also live in the Bay Area. Upon arriving in the U.S., Bobby sptn ten years working at a Chinese restaurant in San Francisco twelve hours a day, six days a week. He then got a job with better pay and benefits working in the banquet department of a San Francisco hotel. Many years of lifting and serving took a toll on his body, forcing him to retire with a serious back injury.  "More time, but no money" Bobby says of retirement, and looks forward to using the savings from his GRID-installed solar system to fix up his home. The morning of the install with the Enphase team was calm. Bobby took photos of the volunteers while his wife was out shopping for lunch. The way he prepared lunch, you could tell he had many years of restaurant experience. The Chans served rotisserie chicken and a variety of steamed vegetables for the hungry volunteers. Dessert was grapes and apples. "I will not fry anything. I am making a healthy meal," said Sue Ann, and joked about the volunteers needing a light meal so they could stay awake after lunch and finish installing the system.
