News : Central Coast Solarthon 2011 was a hit!

Central Coast GRID Alternatives held it's first annual Solarthon event on Saturday, October 22nd in Templeton. It was an amazing fundraiser and block party that kicked off without a hitch! GRID Alternatives teamed up with corporate sponsors, individual participants, homeowners, event volunteers, and job trainees from CET to make Solarthon a great success. Together, in one day, we successfully installed eight solar electric systems, totalling 18.4 kWh of clean, renewable energy which will generate $171,000 for the homeowners over the systems' lifetime (30 years) while eliminating 580 tons of greenhouse gas emissions. It was great being able to see the entire community working together to help local low-income households reduce their energy costs, while also aiming toward a clean, sustainable environment.

Many thanks to our corporate sponsors - Yingli Solar, PG&ERabobank, First Solar, Holland & KnappWallace Group, REC Solar and Sunpower. Also, a big thanks to our in-kind donations: Albertson's Market, Panera Bread, Starbucks, Yogurt Creations, Sunshine Health Foods, Palm Theater, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory,15 Degrees C Wine Shop, Pink Tool Belts,  Cal Poly Arts, Maurice Zimmerman, Tolosa Winery and Pomar Junction.

We would also like to give a very special thank you to our partner, Peoples' Self Help Housing.
